VICNISS, the National Centre for Antimicrobial Stewardship (NCAS), Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA) and colleagues have been awarded a MRFF Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care Mission grant to develop, implement and evaluate NISPAC. Over the next three years, this surveillance program will aim to promote the systematic collection, management and analysis of infection and antimicrobial use data in Australian residential aged care services (RACS). Surveillance reports generated from this data will inform infection prevention and control and antimicrobial stewardship strategies. The expected outcome is the number of infections in high-risk residents will significantly reduce and the appropriateness of antimicrobial use in RACS will improve.
